Chapter 10

These comics are a graphic adaptation of Scot McKnight’s translation of The Gospel of Mark from his book The Second Testament. I will be posting daily through 2025 as part of my own devotional meditation on the Gospels.

These teachings and stories feel unrelated, but they cast a vision for Kingdom life. Yesous bids everyone consider others in the choices and sacrifices we make. He rejects divorce, welcomes children, and asks a rich man to put the call to sacrifice for others into practice. When the man fails to follow - but Yesous acknowledges that Christians will make far reaching sacrifices and that blessing is linked to these choices. The apprentices still don’t get it, however. Yakobos and Yoannes request that Yesous crown them beside His throne. Compare this to the blind beggar. His request is merely the chance to see and he leaves behind his one earthy possession to lay claim to this.

I do not have written permission to use this text but I highly encourage you to order a copy of The Second Testament for yourself from InterVarsity Press. It is a wonderful resource for engaging with the original authors of the whole New Testament (not just Mark).
