Chapter 9

These comics are a graphic adaptation of Scot McKnight’s translation of The Gospel of Mark from his book The Second Testament. I will be posting daily through 2025 as part of my own devotional meditation on the Gospels.

Halfway through the book, Yesous confirms the faith filled words of Petros. He is transformed atop a mountain giving tangible proof that He is the Son of God. Though the apprentices do not yet believe fully, a desperate father demonstrates what it means to submit anti-trust to Christ. From here until He enters Jerusalem the story will explore Yesous’ vision for faithful, sacrificial community life. He will lay His life down and His apprentices should do the same. When they debate who it the greatest. He implores them to strive to show love to the lowly. The way we treat others have eternal consequences and we should be willing to do whatever it takes to live at peace with each other and thus avoid fire of judgement.

I do not have written permission to use this text but I highly encourage you to order a copy of The Second Testament for yourself from InterVarsity Press. It is a wonderful resource for engaging with the original authors of the whole New Testament (not just Mark).
